My Mosaic artwork
I used these images and more to create my Lady GaGa Mosaic. It is to symbolise the consumerism of the modern day.

I began with one of the V girl photographs and I magic wonded the background out. I adjusted curves to give the face a nicer roll off to white with some more contrast and colour. I drew a diagonal lined background and then blurred the edge between the face and the background to make it blend better. I gave the composition another curves adjustment to create more contrast.

I then overlaid lines of "consume" text using different blending modes. I duplicated the face layer and put it on top of the text to make it less prominent on the face - used opacity to keep some text.
I then decided to make a statement and write "just fuck-ing dance.” I chose this to shock and sound like the Lady GaGa song Just Dance. I was able to achieve this by using two duplicate layers with different blending modes and opacities. I then sharpened the image to make it pop.

Note - used Helvetica font. The most common advertising font in the world :)

My Concept:

I wanted to portray the new youth culture of energy drinks with the extremeness of Lady GaGa. This is to represent the craziness of pop culture and the extreme lifestyle that is marketed to youth. The print in the background is an Andy Warhol print, which belongs to my parents. I decided to use it to represent the post modern ideals of the modern world. I got the idea fore the cans in the hair and the glasses from the music video clip "Tellephone" By Lady GaGa.

What I have Learned and where I intend to take the rest of the Folio:

My motivation
• Show the beauty of repetition
• Explore the effects of colour, exposure and texture
• Influence on the composition’s rhythm, mood and meaning.

My intention
• I aim to show the audience there is no ‘perfect composition,’ only preferences.
• Illustrate the beauty of the compositions’ unity and harmony together
• Careful choice of complementary compositions in a sequential rhythm.

Formal aesthetic qualities to consider:

Colour
• Colour – acid, bright, primary and secondary, contrasting, complementary, black and white, monochromatic – hue of the same colour, mix of cool and warm colours
• Role of colour – to convey the feeling of the unnatural, modern, pop-art, poster, unsettling, beautiful / ugly, surreal, alien

Tone
• Tone – dark, flat tones, extreme contrast, linear
Shape / form
• Shape – two-dimensional, figurative, abstract form, suspended, geometric, inorganic

Line
• Line – strong, linear, horizontal background – perspective - vanishing point, complex,
• Eyes movement directed – more because of bright light colour of face
• Projected outward movement, tunnelling , depth, swirling

Texture
• Rough, fragmented, scratched, pixelated
• Creates interest and abstraction

Balance
• Asymmetrical
• Balanced foreground with background
• Darkness with light
