Text Art

Today I looked at text art. I have to say I love text art. It appeals to the modernist inside of me. The compositions are able to communicate to the audience on a very blunt, precise level. I find there is no room for misinterpretation with text art. However, our responses and feelings are subjective.

Barbra Kruger is a fascinating artist. She raises gender issues in her works, questioning the stereotypes and role models portrayed in the media. Her artworks mimic advertisements in magazines and on billboards, but revel the ugliness of commercial society.

Her artworks generally use black and white photography overlaid with a bold or aggressive statement about society. I would like to use Kruger’s style to create my own statement on today’s society.
